Automatically Collected Information
Our hosting platform may automatically collect standard server log data (such as IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and referral URLs) as part of normal infrastructure operations. We may also use privacy-friendly analytics — see Section 7 below.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Contact form submissions are used solely to respond to your press, booking, or general inquiry. We do not use this information for marketing.
- Newsletter subscriptions are used to deliver essays, commentary, and updates on Los Angeles housing, land use, and civic life. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- We do not use your personal information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the one for which you provided it.
3. Third-Party Services
We share limited personal data with the following trusted service providers, solely as needed to operate this site:
- Resend (resend.com/privacy) — processes contact form submissions and routes them to our inbox via transactional email. Your inquiry data passes through Resend's infrastructure.
- Substack (substack.com/privacy) — our newsletter platform. Subscriber email addresses are stored and managed by Substack, subject to their privacy policy.
- Replit (replit.com/privacy) — our hosting and infrastructure provider. Standard server logs collected during site operation are subject to Replit's privacy policy.
These providers are engaged solely to support site operations and are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing or other purposes.
4. We Never Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes — ever.
5. Data Retention
- Contact form inquiries are delivered to our inbox and retained for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill your inquiry and maintain ordinary business records — typically no longer than three years.
- Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- We delete or anonymize personal data that is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was collected.
6. California Residents — CCPA / CPRA Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), grants you the following rights:
- Right to Know — You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you and how it is used.
- Right to Delete — You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Right to Correct — You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing — We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no action needed. If this practice ever changes, we will update this policy and provide a clear opt-out mechanism.
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes beyond those permitted by the CPRA.
- Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not deny services, charge different prices, or provide a lower quality of service because you exercised any of these rights.
How to exercise your rights: Email info@brianrosenstein.com with a description of your request. We will respond within 45 days as required by law. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
7. Analytics
This site may use privacy-friendly analytics tools that collect aggregate, anonymous data — such as page views and traffic sources — without identifying individual visitors, setting persistent tracking cookies, or sharing data with advertisers. If analytics are in use, no personally identifiable information is collected for this purpose.
8. Cookies
This site uses minimal cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or third-party behavioral tracking technologies. Any cookies in use are either strictly necessary for site functionality or are set by the third-party services described above (such as the newsletter provider), subject to those services' own policies.
You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some site functionality.
9. Children's Privacy
This site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, please contact us at info@brianrosenstein.com and we will promptly delete it.
